Green Data Systems shows Modular Data Center @ CeBIT

During “GreenIT World” - a special 2000m2 area committed to Green IT solutions during CeBIT - Green Data Systems will show the latest addition to her portfolio: a Green Modular Data Center. The Green Modular Data Center has been developed around rack type airconditioners and water-cooled doors.

In the basic module servers and cooling systems are laid out in a manner that cooling efficiency is enhanced. Multiple basic modules are used to create a data center in accordance with the needs of each customer. Due to the efficient design the power consumption, installation area and air conditioning cost can be reduced by up to 27%, 75% and 45%, respectively, compared with existing general data centers.

Because of the fixed basic design, the time for establishing a data center will be shortened from 6 months to 2 months. The basic module consists of a 19-inch rack incorporating blade servers and storages and a rack-type air conditioner of the same size. The minimum configuration of the basic module is two 19-inch rack-type servers and two air conditioners installed in a 6.3 x 3.6m space, while the maximum configuration consists of 16 of each component installed in a 6.3 x 10m space. The “water-cooled rear door cool saver” can be installed on the back of the server as an option to directly cool down the exhausted heat.

The rack-type air conditioner and the water-cooled rear door were developed by Hitachi exclusively for the new data center. The air conditioner features the COP (coefficient of performance) 1.5 times higher than general air conditioners. In addition, the data center can be easily built because it does not require external air conditioners and because server racks, air conditioners and water-cooled rear doors are introduced as one unit.
